We’re excited to announce the student-athletes who have been named our February Athletes of the Month! 📣

These exceptional athletes from boys & girls basketball, boys & girls wrestling, swimming and cheerleading have shown outstanding dedication and sportsmanship on and off the court and mat or in and out of the pool!

Each coach took the time to write down summaries on why these individuals truly stand out. Let’s give a roaring cheer for these February stars! ⭐

A boy is wearing a white basketball jersey and wears the number red. He is jumping and going up for a layup,. Behind him you can see other players and spectators.

Boys Basketball: John has been a great leader for our team this year. His performance on the court has also been very impressive. He is averaging 16.2 points, 6.2 assists, and 5 rebounds during the month of February. Highlighted by a big 24 point game at Gladstone. He led our team to the Tri-Valley Conference Championship and earned 1st-Team All-Conference honors. John also does good work in the classroom with a 3.31 cumulative GPA.

Girls Basketball: Brinley and LaRhia have been outstanding leaders for our program and are well deserving of being named Co-Athletes of the Month. Their leadership, work ethic, and commitment have helped guide our team to the state playoffs and a strong 6–2 league record. Both players have been instrumental in setting the standard for our team, putting in the foundational work that will continue to build success for our program in the future. We are incredibly proud of the way they represent our team on and off the court and are very thankful for everything they have contributed this season. 🏀👏

Boys Wrestling: Deklyn Parton capped off an outstanding senior season with remarkable performances throughout the year. He finished in the top three at several highly competitive tournaments and earned a 2nd-place finish at the 4A Special District Tournament, qualifying for the State Championship. Beyond his success on the mat, Deklyn is a three-sport varsity athlete who consistently brings leadership, and a positive attitude to every practice and competition. Congratulations on a tremendous season, Deklyn!!!

Girls Wrestling: Yaretzi is our power house freshman. She has grown leaps and bounds from the beginning of the season. She was our only freshman to qualify for the OSAA State Tournament. Athletes like Yaretzi develop a program to the next level because of her lofty goals and willingness to work to achieve them. She spent countless time after practices to develop her technique to the level needed for success. She is nothing shy of one of our toughest wrestlers in the program. I have no doubt in my mind Yaretzi will be one of the best wrestlers in her weight class one day because of the work she is willing to put in. Her examples of commitment, development, work ethic, and willingness to keep learning have all been something to follow in our program. I am excited to see where her career in wrestling goes. She will go far beyond the state level of wrestling if she wants to achieve that. I am proud to have her apart of the Madras High School Girls Wrestling Program.

Cheer: Laleesha has been a great example of staying positive no matter the situation. She always has a good attitude. Laleesha is always striving to learn new things and be the best cheerleader she can be. We have truly enjoyed coaching her and wish her the best as she graduates this year.

The image features a swimmer in a blue swimsuit and cap competing in a swimming competition, with the "Athlete of the Month" title and the swimmer's name, Johan Garcia, prominently displayed.

Swimming: Johan Garcia has earned Student Athlete of the Month honors through an outstanding combination of performance, leadership, and academic excellence. At the district meet, Johan delivered his best swims of the season by setting a personal best as part of the 200 Medley Relay, clocking a 31.28 split in the 50-backstroke, and helping propel the relay team to a 1st place finish securing an automatic qualification to the State Championship Meet. He followed that up with another personal record in the 100-backstroke, finishing on the podium in an impressive 5th place. Johan’s dedication extends beyond the pool as well: he and the rest of the boys swimming team were recognized by OSAA as a Winter 25/26 Academic All State Top 10 Team. Just as importantly, Johan consistently elevates those around him, he’s the first to cheer for teammates and competitors alike, and at the state meet he was noted for being out front enthusiastically supporting the Para athlete events as well. Johan represents exactly what we value in student athletes: excellence, humility, and genuine encouragement of others.
