MHS January 2026 Athlete of the Month

We’re excited to announce the first wave of student-athletes who have been named our January Athletes of the Month! 📣
These exceptional athletes from boys & girls basketball, boys & girls wrestling, swimming and cheerleading have shown outstanding dedication and sportsmanship on and off the court and mat or in and out of the pool!
Each coach took the time to write down summaries on why these individuals truly stand out. Let’s give a roaring cheer for these January stars! ⭐

Swimming: Cierra Weeks has been an outstanding athlete to coach, and she is very deserving of being Athlete of the Month for swimming. She is extremely coachable, and open to feedback. She is committed to getting better each day. At the recent White Buffalo Classic, Cierra’s hard work paid off as she set personal best times in both of her races. Beyond her performance in the pool, she always maintains a positive attitude and supports her teammates. Cierra also excels academically, maintaining over 4.0 GPA while staying actively involved in multiple other activities. We are very excited to see how the rest of the season and next two years plays out for her.

Cheerleading: Eric is one of the most fun and hard working athletes we have had come into our program. He is always willing to try something new and lifts the spirits of others. He keeps the vibe positive no matter what happens. This weekend he performed at his second competition and did great. We are so excited we will have him for one more year and know he is gonna rock it at state. Eric we are so happy you’re “locked into cheer.”

Boys Basketball: Matthew has been a huge part of our success in the month of January. Over the past month, he led our team in scoring & rebounding with about 17 PPG & 9 RPG. He had a big standout performance against Bend where he scored a career high 32 points. His character on the court and in the classroom has also been outstanding. Matthew finished the semester with straight A's and a 4.0 semester GPA.

Girls Basketball: Ana Boyle is our Girls Basketball Player of the Month, and she continues to set the standard as one of our team captains. Ana brings relentless effort to every practice, pushing herself and her teammates to get better each day. She has been a key presence on the defensive end, using her toughness and awareness to make an impact, and she consistently rebounds with determination and grit. Beyond the stats, Ana is an outstanding teammate who leads by example with her work ethic, attitude, and commitment to the team.

Girls Wrestling: Brooklin is built for this sport. She has a competitive spirit that is relentless on the mat. I have enjoyed my time coaching her this season. She learns very quickly and then applies it in her matches with exceptional ability. Her bright smile, positive attitude, and amazing work ethic is infectious amongst her teammates. There is a future in this sport for her if she wants one. Brooklin is an exemplary athlete and scholar in our program. It is evident how invested she is to her academics, athletic ability, and her team mates. Not only is she the most powerful person in our room, but she also gives the most powerful example of being a leader. She takes time to help her team mates learn and get better with respect for who they are and their ability. I am proud to say I am her coach. All programs need this type of person. They leave a legacy of strength, impact, and hope for others to follow. Madras High School Girls Wrestling Program is honored to have such a strength in our program. This should be replicated by those who enter into our room in the future years to come for ultimate success in their careers.

Boys Wrestling: Emmett Oliver is a hardworking and dedicated sophomore, who consistently puts in extra effort to improve. His commitment and strong work ethic has paid off this season. He has reached the podium at several tournaments so far this season and has his sights set on the State Tournament. Emmett has a bright future ahead and we look forward to seeing him finish the season strong!
