MHS May 2026 Athlete of the Month

We’re excited to announce the student-athletes who have been named our May Athletes of the Month! 📣
These exceptional athletes from baseball, softball, boys and girls track and field, boys and girls golf and boys and girls tennis have shown outstanding dedication and sportsmanship on and off the field, track, course, or court!
Each coach took the time to write down summaries on why these individuals truly stand out. Let’s give a roaring cheer for these May stars! ⭐

Baseball: Pablo has been our catcher all year and has shown grit and leadership from behind the dish all year. He started out the year rocky at the plate but he took every bit of coaching and ended the league year hitting over .400. I learned this year that Pablo has only been playing baseball since the 8th grade his work ethic and love for playing the game is the reason he got as good as he did in a short time. We will miss Pablo next year
- Coach Mitch Andresen

Softball: Sydney has been a strong and consistent athlete in the circle this year. She has an on base percentage of .406 and 14 RBIs. She threw over 2,000 pitches and had nearly 70 strikeouts this season. Thank you Syd for your hard work!
- Coach Bailey Daniels

Boys Track & Field: It was so exciting to watch Redsky accomplish his goals of making it to state in the 3k. He then came back and ran his heart out in the 1500, running a huge pr, and then helped the guys 4 x 4 team secure a spot at state. Redksy is May's athlete of the month. He has grown a lot over the last few years and has become the athlete/person we have always believed is there. Congratulations Redsky for all of your accomplishments. We will miss you a lot!
- Coach Mario Mendoza

Girls Track & Field: I'm excited to nominate Marlee as the athlete of the month for May! Marlee won MVP for the running events at Districts, and was a huge reason why the girls were able to make history. She has been improving steadily all season and has helped the girls team believe that big things are possible. It's so fun watching Marlee sprint. Thank you for inspiring us Marlee!
- Coach Mario Mendoza

Boys Golf: Fiske is a perfect example of how anyone can make a choice to better themselves at any time, both on and off the course. It was clear coming into the year that nobody had improved more since last season than Fiske, but there was a lot of learning that needed to be done in terms of off the course responsibilities to the program. By the end of this season not only was Fiske playing his best golf, but had vastly improved his academic and behavioral standing as well. Fiske gave us a huge lift at the Tri-Valley Championships, shooting a couple of the lower rounds of his career to help clinch the first league title for White Buffalo Men's Golf since 1996, and earning himself 2nd Team All-Conference honors in the process. He continued his great run of play into the State Championships, where he helped us cap off a fantastic season with a 6th Place team finish.
- Coach Johnny Wilson

Girls Golf: Sydnee anchored our team to its first state tournament birth in 27 years. Her two day total of 208 at District earned her 1st team SD #2 honors finishing in the top 5. At state, here 106-98 scores at State were the best on the team and she met her goal for the year on the last hole with a par to shoot her career best 98.
- Coach Allen Hair

Boys Tennis: It is with great pleasure to honor Emmanuel 'Manny' Mesina and Freddie Reynoso as May's MHS Athletes of the Month 2026. Manny and Freddie have played as the #1 doubles team all season. They teamed up after losing their doubles partners for the last two years due to graduation. After attending State tennis last year as spectators, they experienced what it takes to be at the next level. They set high goals for themselves as seniors. Regardless of the weather, they were at the courts with their teammate, Isidro, getting the necessary playing time to be the best players when the season began. They competed in off-season tournaments and took private lessons to make sure they were ready. Their highlight of the year was when they beat the two-time State qualifiers from 5A Crook County. Going into District, they had a 14-4 record only losing to 6A South Salem whom they were beating, but had to retire due to an injury, 6A Grants Pass, 5A Redmond, and league rival Riverside giving them a #2 seed. Unfortunately, their bid to State ended with a devastating loss. They played each match with Hope, Honor, Honesty and Humility, which was not only inspiring to their teammates, but also recognized by opponents, other coaches, and anyone else who had the enjoyment of watching them compete as a class act.
- Coach Kincaid and Assist. Coach Brandon

Girls Tennis: First time varsity players, actually started off in the #1 position, but eventually settled for #3 doubles. Team was undefeated in league and knocked off the #2 seed at the district tournament as well as a team in the quarter finals allowing them to advance to the state tournament. Huge growth made by both players this season.
